A visionary leader with an entrepreneurial spirit, Deanna Werklund is founder of Emergenetics Canada Inc., a new corporation that is the Canadian franchisee for Emergenetics International.

Drawing on 15 years of experience in financial management in the Oil & Gas Engineering sector, Deanna joined Werklund Capital in 2006 with a mission to find a better structure to manage the organization’s wealth.  Her interests included understanding the dynamics of the ‘family office’ model, a professional entity designed to manage the investments, business affairs, and philanthropic interests of high net-worth individuals and families.  In 2011, after she studied a number of world-class examples, the Werklund Family Office was created to encompass both the wealth management entity of Werklund Capital and the Werklund Foundation.

As Deanna worked to manage the wealth of Werklund Capital through strategic investments, she never lost sight of their most important investment – giving back in our communities. Drawing on her experience as a successful businesswoman and her passion for helping others, Deanna helped found the Werklund Foundation in 2006 with her father, who now directs all of the Werklund Family Office companies.

Like Werklund Capital, Deanna envisioned the Werklund Foundation as highly entrepreneurial in nature, investing in (and growing) initiatives with the capacity to yield the highest returns on our most important asset: our youth.  Deanna’s bold vision for excellence in leadership education has led to the Werklund Foundation’s support of youth leadership initiatives in Alberta. Through multiple partnerships and collaborations in Calgary – including the Telus Science Centre, and the Werklund Foundation’s Centre for Youth Leadership Education at the University of Calgary – the mission of the Werklund Foundation is to make a difference in the lives of youth by supporting educational opportunities that will assist them as they achieve their highest potential.

Deanna graduated from Queen’s University EMBA program in 2013.  Deanna is also a graduate of the Institute for Corporate Directors, a Master Graduate of Rapport Leadership International, and a graduate of the highly distinguished Judy Project – an initiative led by the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

A mother of two (super great) children and keeper of a small zoo of pets, Deanna enjoys spending time vacationing anywhere there is a beach and warm weather.
